The Fly Racing Lite Hydrogen line owes its existence to professionals demanding lightweight, maximum mobility, and simplicity in their gear while keeping functionality high for the demands of racing. Although dual sport riding is a far cry from Supercross racing, aggressive adventurers may have the same requests from their gear. Riding apparel that has everything required and nothing superfluous can save energy, improve comfort and most of all, increase enjoyment of time spent aboard the bike.

The Fly Racing Lite Hydrogen pant was 90% constructed of stretch fabrics. These stretch fabrics were more breathable than traditional nonstretch fabrics, so the impressive mobility was also matched by a remarkable breathability. Laser-cut perforations in strategic areas on the front and rear of the pant enhanced the fabric's inherent air permeability, allowing influx and exhaust of air, especially in the standing position. The pant was devoid of heavy, stiff and unbreathable TPR patches. The only TPR on the body of the pant was a small outline of the Fly Racing logo on the outside of each knee. The inside surface of each leg had a leather heat shield secured by triple Kevlar stitching that ensured the durability of that panel. The main waist closure utilized a micro ratcheted buckle, and along with the patented "2D" flat adjustment buckle on the left side, waist size tuning range was abundant. A "Zipper Lock," a hook and loop strap at the top of the fly zipper, guaranteed that it remained closed and added to the adjustability of the pant's waist tension. The hip area had minimal mesh drop liner, only covering the area that contacted the bike's seat. Stretch rib panels surrounded the mesh panel which aided in seated mobility without tugging on the rest of the pant. The rear waist interior had silicone accents to help keep the jersey tucked in even during aggressive seated accelerations. The lower cuffs had elastic bands, and there were reinforced openings to allow cutting the bands out if desired.

Stretch fabrics also form the Fly Racing Hydrogen Lite jersey, which is especially elastic in the horizontal direction. The main fabric's breathability was excellent, mesh neck line and side paneling adding to the effect. The cut was decidedly trim and athletic but still allowed wearing a roost guard underneath. Torso length was generous, even for my excessively drawn-out midsection. The sleeves are extremely close fitting and slim, with an open cuff design, which improved airflow through the jersey and reduced chances of forearm constrictions.  The taper of the sleeves and the stretchy material kept them from riding up much past the wrists without the use of elastic cuffs. The neck opening was on the smaller side, which helped keep dirt from entering, but some larger riders may feel the need to stretch it out a bit.  The sublimated graphics on both pant and jersey picked up a few mud stains, but they have yet to fade after almost a full year of washings.


I luckily have access to many lines of gear for dual sport riding. Unless the conditions are wintry, I grab the Fly Racing Hydrogen Lite line 99% of the time.
